Myspace was the first heavy hitter

 

The beginning of social media had a huge impact. I am not sure what was the first actual site, but I can recall when myspace came on the scene. It was extraordinary and one of a kind giving you your own profile which you could customize, top 8 section for your best friends, spots where you can add details about yourself, comments, private messages and of course pictures. Myspace took off because it was a platform that know one could imagine you could create. It was big on music and young adults.

               Since myspace social media changed a great deal with Facebook becoming the go to around 2011. Facebook was more laid back and simple, it did not have the personalization that myspace had but people liked the simplicity aspect to it. Now Instagram and snapchat are popular. To me social media has changed in the direction of just becoming more simpler in every new platform that comes to the table, this is fact because after Facebook Instagram took it to just pictures and captions and is the leading app today. The people who create apps seem to like to make it easy so that anyone can use.

               Social media can be intrusive because at any moment you can say whatever you feel. Someone with a large audience can attract a lot of attention whether negative or positive. This is why companies advertise on social media, athletes, political campaigns and more. All types of statements are made on social media and that the fact that it is open usually results in a lot of backlash.

               I would not say there is a responsibility to using social media I believe it just a freedom of speech, but you can use social media as a responsibility to make a change in certain things you believe in or spread awareness. Its anyone’s personal agenda on how they want to use social media. As of now a days it is being used more for marketing, music, advertisements, news and more. Even though I believe there is no specific responsibility a lot of people use it as that.

               Social media has a lot of negative to it. There is always negativity in the social media world but recently what I accounted was before Chad Boseman passed of cancer, he was seen on video looking very skinny, people joked about it and shamed him making fun of him. After a couple of months, he died. So social media can be evil because people are quick to judge not knowing what someone is going through. In the future I see social media becoming even more simple so the audience can grow. There will most likely be more action taken for negative behavior. I feel like music will continue to be a big part of social media.

               I don’t see any new major platform taking over anytime soon, Instagram will continue to dominate, its easy to use and its audience is already huge. People do not like change so it will be hard for something else to replace, I just see more updates coming to certain apps and that’s really it.
